ATV Accidents
Any owner or operator of a snowmobile or ATV involved in an accident resulting in juries requiring services of a physician must report the accident immediately by the quickest means of communication to a law enforcement officer nearest to the place where the accident occurred. Accidents involving property damage of $1000 or more must report the accident within 72 hours on forms provided by the Department's Safety Office.
ATV Transfer of Ownership
Maine law requires you to notify the Commissioner of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife within 10 days if ownership of a snowmobile, ATV or Boat for which a registration certificate has already been issued, is transferred or its use permanently discontinued and return the original registration. Please use the Certificate of Transfer below to do this. A person is entitled to register another similar vehicle for a transfer fee ONLY AFTER he has sold, traded, or permanently discontinued the vehicle which has been legally registered in the same registration year. The registration certificate of the transferred vehicle MUST be filled out, signed, and accompany the new application for a transfer registration. Registration transfers are not applicable to Antique Snowmobile registrations.
